If you use Adobe Camera RAW or similar editing software, you’ll probably be familiar with XMP, or ‘sidecar’ files. However, Lightroom users may not be so familiar. So what are these files and why are they useful, even if you use Lightroom?

In this week’s Editing Toolbox, I’ll be explaining what XMP files do as well going through a few scenarios where having them in addition to a Lightroom catalogue might be useful. Plus I’ll be showing you how to generate these handy little files in Lightroom.
