Eddie Redmayne is trying out some new things. Last summer he took a course at the École Internationale de Theatre Jacques Lecoq, AKA “clown school”, a creative establishment where he studied “the Theatre of the Absurd”. There, the actor who is known best for his roles in The Danish Girl, Les Miserables, and The Theory Of Everything, was all about “improvising and playing”, although he tells GQ that there was nothing “kiddie” about his experience. And the playing has extended to his wardrobe.

Because Redmayne’s been getting trippy with his style. While the actor was once about the classics, he’s ventured into newer, wavier waters with a little help from Harry Lambert—the stylist behind Harry Styles, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, and Emma Corrin.

While the two-pieces are still there (by way of Margiela, Gucci, and Celine these days), Redmayne’s recent outré looks are livening up. Case in point: this weekend he spotted in a kaleidoscopic, fuzzy, multicolored mohair knit from Loewe with a pair of cropped slacks in a muted grey and a pair of chunky black derbies. Loud! Full of character! Fun!

Redmayne is no longer dressing like Redmayne—and this winter, we’ll be investing in a chaotic knit too. Below are a few of our favorites, each imbued with the same rollicking energy as Redmayne’s Loewe joint above.
