CHARLOTTE -Neighbors say it feels eerie on Wandering Creek Drive in northwest Charlotte on Wednesday. This after a Duke Energy line worker was electrocuted and died while working on a new property.
“I pulled up because I seen the polices and I seen the taped off by my house. So I’m wondering what’s going on,” said neighbor Latanya Ledbetter. For her, the scene of cops up and down her street is all too familiar.
Not even a year ago, there was an explosion at the same property. A propane tank inside a car blew up in the driveway destroying the car and the home.
“It was the end of September, and it’s coming up on a year now,” said Ledbetter, “and now this has happened.
WCCB’s Emma Mondo spoke with another neighbor off camera who says they are connected to Duke Energy.
“We have safety meetings every day talking about it,” he said. “We’re doing a training next month about electricity, actually, and just kind of how dangerous it is.”
All the neighbors who talked with Mondo say that something about this lot on Wandering Creek Drive, doesn’t feel right.
“My wife doesn’t drive down the street,” said one neighbor. “She goes around the block, but she doesn’t come down the street.”
“I don’t know what the odds of something like that happening twice in the same place are,” said another.”
Ledbetter thinks the home on that property should not be built.
“I don’t know what it is going on with that lot, but obviously something is wrong,” she said.
Duke Energy released a statement to WCCB, saying “Earlier this afternoon a fatality on Wandering Creek Drive in Charlotte involved one of our lineworkers. Our hearts go out to our teammate’s family and fellow coworkers. We are currently investigating the incident to learn more and ask for privacy for the family at this time.”
