The sheriff’s office said Roger went under the water while swimming a rope out to a drifting boat, but did not resurface.
At around 11:37 a.m., deputies responded to Lake Don Pedro in the area of Moccasin Point for reports of drowning. When crews arrived at the scene, a witness was contacted who told the deputies the location where Rogers was seen.
Boating Unit deputies started a search of the area using a patrol vessel, TCSO said. After a couple of hours, Rogers’ body was found underwater and members of the TCSO Dive Team recovered the body and confirmed that he had died.
The Don Pedro Recreation Agency confirmed in a statement that Rogers died while he was on duty.
“Our thoughts and condolences are with the employee’s loved ones and colleagues during this difficult time,” TID officials said in a statement to FOX40. “The safety and well-being of our employees is our top priority, and we are cooperating fully with the appropriate parties as they review the circumstances surrounding this tragic event.”
