Driver suffering cardiac arrest dies after crash, 4-year-old and man taken to hospital

Investigators say the driver who died was traveling west when they crossed the centerline and struck the other car in the eastbound lane.

SILVER SPRING, Md. — A two-car crash in Silver Spring has left one person dead and two others, including a young child, in the hospital. Police say the driver who died was found in cardiac arrest following the crash. 

According to the Montgomery County Police Department, the crash happened shortly after 9 a.m. at the intersection of Good Hope Road and Good Hope Drive. 

Upon arrival, first responders found a driver in an Acura RDX in cardiac arrest; despite lifesaving efforts, the driver was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. The other driver and a 4-year-old were taken to an area hospital with serious injuries and are expected to survive. 

Investigators say the driver in the Acura was traveling west when they crossed the centerline and struck the other car in the eastbound lane. 

The driver killed has been identified as 41-year-old Tyrone Alexander Chappell, Jr. of Silver Spring.  

The investigation remains active and ongoing. Good Hope Drive was closed Friday morning from Twig Road to Cape May Road for the crash investigation.
