Drake has shared the release date for his new album For All the Dogs. It’s due out September 22, and is tied to his debut poetry book, Titles Ruin Everything: A Stream of Consciousness, which he released in June. Last month he unveiled its artwork, designed by his son Adonis. For All the Dogs is the follow-up LP to 2022’s Honestly, Nevermind and his collaborative LP with 21 Savage, Her Loss.

The day of Titles Ruin Everything’s release, promotional ads ran in The New York Times and other outlets with a QR code atop an image of two puppies and the words “For all the dogs.” Scanning the QR code led to a website with the following message: “I made an album to go with the book. They say they miss the old Drake girl don’t tempt me. FOR ALL THE DOGS.”

Apart from briefly teasing it on his radio show last year, Drake dropped Titles Ruin Everything with minimal advance notice. He co-wrote the 168-page collection with Kenza Samir, a longtime friend and songwriting collaborator who contributed to albums like Views and If You’re Reading This, It’s Too Late.

When he wasn’t dropping $1 million dollars on a ring designed and worn by 2Pac, Drake spent this summer starring in Young Thug’s “Oh U Went” video and polishing off his freestyle flow. He also used his feature on “Meltdown,” from Travis Scott’s new album, Utopia, to diss Pharrell Williams. Taking aim at his new Louis Vuitton gig as men’s creative director, which was formerly held by the late Virgil Abloh, Drake raps, “Man, fuck all that spinning the narrative shit/I melt down the chains that I bought from your boss/Give a fuck about all of that heritage shit/Since V not around the members done hung up the Louis/They not even wearing that shit.”

Honestly, Nevermind was Drake’s 11th project to land at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart and 14th full-length to make it onto the chart’s top 10. Her Loss was similarly successful thanks to singles like “Jumbotron Shit Poppin.” That album hit No. 1 a month later. In the interim, Drake and 21 Savage got sued by Vogue for copyright violation after printing an array of fake magazines, but they have since settled that lawsuit. Their North American tour together in support of Her Loss takes place this summer.

In between Her Loss and his new album, Drake hopped on tracks with Popcaan (“We Caa Done”) and British rapper J Hus (“Who Told You”) and dropped his own song “Search & Rescue.” He also took home the 2023 Grammy Award for Best Melodic Rap Performance with Future and Tems for “Wait for U.”
