DJ Hernandez arrested fir alleged planned shootings at UConn, Brown

Dennis “DJ” Hernandez, the brother of late NFL star and convicted murderer Aaron Hernandez, has been arrested after allegedly planning shootings at Brown University and the University of Connecticut.

The Bristol Police Department says Hernandez showed signs of being “gravely disabled and a danger to society” this month, according to documents obtained by TMZ Sports.

A woman who identified herself as Hernandez’s ex told the cops that he took her car, drove to Brown and UConn, and “went into a number of classrooms and buildings.” Another person told the cops that Hernandez was planning shootings at the two schools, TMZ adds.

The documents also say that Hernandez — who played football for UConn — wrote on social media on July 19 that he had “warned [his] enemies” and that he would “definitely” kill. Police located Hernandez later that day, and after a standoff in which he told officers to kill him, Hernandez was tasered and hospitalized for evaluation, according to TMZ.

After being released from the hospital, Hernandez was booked on charges of threatening and breach of peace and held on a $250,000 bond, the outlet reports, adding that he’s due in court next week.

This is the fourth time this year that Hernandez has been arrested, according to WFSB: He was arrested in May after a police pursuit, he was arrested days later when he threw a brick at an ESPN building in Bristol, and he was arrested a third time earlier this month after missing a court date related to the ESPN incident.

Hernandez is the brother of the late Aaron Hernandez, a former New Englands Patriot player who was found guilty in the 2013 murder of Odin Lloyd, who was dating his fiancee’s sister. Aaron died of suicide in prison in 2017 at age 27.

During his hospitalization after the July 19 standoff, DJ threatened to kill “anyone who profited off of his brother Aaron” and “mentioned specifically ESPN, but not any people,” according to a police report cited by TMZ.
