Nobody has won the jackpot since Sept. 6, when two tickets matched all six numbers to claim a staggering $1.8 billion prize.
WASHINGTON — No winners Monday means Powerball’s jackpot will rise again for Wednesday’s drawing.
The estimated $654 million grand prize will jump to $689 million. Nobody matched all five numbers and the Powerball Monday, but one ticket in Illinois matched the five white balls and is worth $1 million.
The grand prize has steadily increased since the last grand prize winners in September, who split the second-largest Powerball jackpot in history earlier this year. On Sept. 6, two tickets sold in Missouri and Texas matched all six numbers to claim a staggering $1.8 billion prize, marking one of the largest lottery wins in U.S. history.
Powerball’s rising jackpot comes after a long winless run for the competing lottery game Mega Millions finally came to an end when a ticket worth nearly a billion dollars was sold in Newnan, Georgia.
Monday’s $654 million jackpot had a lump sum cash value of $303.2 million. It’s still shy of the top 10 list of winning Powerball jackpots, which begins north of $750 million.
