Alright folks, here’s the deal. I choose to write my reviews as positively as I can, unless the game really felt like a waste of my time. Fast Detect didn’t feel like a waste of time. Fast Detect looks like a passion project from a collaboration of talented people. I respect passion and decided to respect this game. While playing I made a list of pros and cons and I’ll share them with you.
The first pro is that this game has a lot of custom content. And I really mean “a lot”. Even down to the nice-looking custom font for the HUD. Most of the first level was all custom, and while not all of it looks amazing (there are some blurry textures and some weird stretching), I won’t hold this against the devs – after all, they’re using an engine from 2004. I’ve also seen a few models from Portal 2, from I think Left 4 Dead and what I believe to be a model from CS:S. Oh well, you have to use whatever you can, right? Alright.
The second pro is that at least for the duration of the first level, it felt like a good roaming simulation. Open area maps are hard to do in Source, trust me. They managed to pull it off, unfortunately the subsequent maps weren’t as open. Breaking Point Auto Farm 2000k Per Hour Roblox Scripts
The third pro is what I call “good asset management“. At least this was totally true for the first level and a number of other levels: sub-locations of the map had their own different pools of assets and overall various parts of the map didn’t feel repetetive from the other parts of the same map. Overall the use of assets is rather good, it helped establish the surreal yet realistic-looking atmosphere/design that reminded me of one of my favourite games, The Evil Within. That being said, sometimes the game becomes a weird blend of brand new HD textures from 2016 and old textures from HL:Source or the leaked version of HL2 from 2003. But I suppose you really have to pull on your resources every now and then.
