RED HOOK, N.Y. (NEWS10)– A staff member at the Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health is facing a felony charge after he allegedly hit a resident, according to New York State Police. Samuel Ezechukwu, 49, was charged with first-degree endangering the welfare of an incompetent or physically disabled person.
Troopers said an investigation began Monday after the Rhinebeck Bureau of Criminal Investigation received a report of an alleged physical abuse by a staff member at the facility. The investigation reportedly discovered Ezechukwu hit the resident in the back and held their head down while transporting other residents.
Ezechukwu was arrested on Tuesday.
He was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Rhinebeck Court on October 8, at 5 p.m. He was then released.
