Delta Air Lines has exercised an option to purchase 12 additional Airbus A220-300 aircraft, the carrier announced Wednesday. The model has 25 percent better fuel efficiency than the aircraft it will be replacing, according to Delta. Deliveries are expected in 2026 and 2027.

The narrowbody, 130-seat aircraft includes 12 First Class, 30 Comfort-Plus and 88 Main Cabin seats. Delta said it will use the planes on domestic routes. The carrier currently has 14 Airbus A220-300s in service and 60 on order, including these 12. It also operates 45 109-seat Airbus A220-100 aircraft.
