Delayed Charlotte-area burger joint now has an opening date. Here’s when.

After more than a year of waiting and a few delays, a new spot for big burgers, breakfast sandwiches and more is coming a short drive past the Charlotte border.

Whataburger‘s newest Charlotte-area location is opening in Rock Hill, South Carolina, on Thursday, July 9, joining the Texas burger chain’s growing lineup in the Carolinas.

The first store in the brand’s Charlotte region opened in Gastonia in May 2025 with a location in Charlotte proper following in September. Locations are also now open in Mooresville, Hickory, High Point and Indian Land, South Carolina, with another one set to follow in Charlotte’s Mallard Creek neighborhood.

How to get free food

Whataburger offers a menu of breakfast items such as biscuit sandwiches, taquitos, sandwiches and hash brown sticks. Lunch and dinner staples include its customizable Whataburgers, Whatachick’n sandwiches, strips and nuggets, plus salads, shakes and desserts.

The newest restaurant plans an 8:30 a.m. ribbon cutting celebration July 9 that will include complimentary Honey Butter Chicken Biscuits for the first 100 customers and giveaways of exclusive Whataburger swag.

While many Whataburger restaurants are open 24-7, the Rock Hill location will initially offer drive-thru and front counter service daily from 7 a.m. to 2 a.m. Customers can order ahead through the Whataburger App to earn rewards and redeem offers.
