Decomposing body found in Staten Island home, stabbing suspected

The decomposing body of a 53-year-old man was found by cops inside his Staten Island apartment after a neighbor called 911 to report a foul odor, police said Monday.

Police are probing the death as a homicide because the victim had puncture wounds to his upper torso and investigators suspect he was stabbed.

The discovery was made after police responded to a 911 call at 12:40 a.m. Sunday about an odor coming from inside an apartment at the Arlington Terrace complex on Holland Ave. near Richmond Terrace in Mariners Harbor.

The victim was found dead lying face up in his home. His name was not immediately released.

The city Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy to determine his cause of death.
