Primary Wave Music has appointed David Loiterton as President, Indo-Pacific.

Based in Hong Kong, David will oversee its operations in what Primary Wave calls “one of the fastest-growing and dynamic regions in the world”.

The announcement comes on the heels of Primary Wave’s new partnership with Times Music, the prominent India-based record label and music publisher and subsidiary of Times of India Group.

Primary Wave says Loiterton was instrumental in securing that strategic investment and already has a number of additional partnerships in the works.

As head of this new division, Loiterton will be responsible for driving investment in music IP across the region, in particular India, Japan, Korea, China, and Australia, as well as the emerging Southeast Asian markets.

He will manage the company’s catalog of songwriters and composers in these markets, leveraging, according to Primary Wave, “his relationships and decades of experience to introduce Primary Wave’s roster to a significant new global market”.

Loiterton joins Primary Wave with more than 35 years’ experience in music publishing, recording, artist management, and music streaming.

According to Primary Wave, from the very start of his career with superstar artist INXS, Loiterton “saw opportunities in the Asia region” and in 1991 moved to Hong Kong.

He was responsible for building BMG’s music publishing business in Asia in the 90s, investing and expanding the major into ten countries including Japan, China, and India. In 2000, he built and launched a music streaming platform with Japanese soga shosha Itochu and Hong Kong’s Techpacific.

Three years later, Loiterton joined Universal Music to oversee their strategic marketing, catalog, and commercial activities across Asia.

In 2006 he joined the UK startup Omnifone where he secured and launched music streaming services with the SONY Corporation, Samsung, and Tencent. Omnifone was acquired by Apple in 2016. Loiterton began working with Primary Wave Music in 2018.
