CHICAGO — A CTA bus with a driver but no passengers crashed into a building late Saturday night after being struck by a hit-and-run driver in Jefferson Park on the city’s Northwest Side, according to Chicago police.
Police say the bus was going north on North Central Avenue when it was hit on the front driver’s side around 10:45 p.m. by a black sedan that was going east on West Catalpa Avenue and failed to stop at a stop sign.
The impact caused the bus to lose control and hit a parked car and a fence before crashing into the side of a residential building in the 5500 block of N. Central Ave, according to police. Meanwhile, police say the black sedan fled the scene before officers arrived.
The driver of the CTA bus, a 46-year-old woman, suffered a head laceration and was taken by the Chicago Fire Department to an area hospital, where she was listed in fair condition, according to police. No other injuries were reported in the crash.
As for the residential building, five residents have been displaced and the Red Cross has been notified, police say, with CFD determining the building suffered structural damage. None of the displaced residents were injured.
Nobody is in custody, according to police, and area detectives are investigating.
