Fire investigators are still working to determine a cause.
WASHINGTON — Dozens of DC firefighters responded to a fire at a residence connected to the Embassy of Laos in Northwest on Sunday night. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Crews were called to the 2200 block of S Street Northwest for a report of a fire around 9:30 p.m. When firefighters arrived, they found smoke and flames coming from the second floor of a three-story structure. Fire department spokesperson Vito Maggiolo said the residence was connected to the Laos Embassy, which is across from Mitchell Park. Maggiolo said when fire crews got to the scene, several people inside the residence had gotten out safely on their own.
Roughly 60 firefighters responded to the fire call and quickly brought the flames under control. Maggiolo said the fire was knocked down within minutes of their arrival. Now, investigators will work with embassy staff and members of the Secret Service to try to determine a cause of the fire, Maggiolo said.
No injuries were reported as a result of the fire. It is not clear how badly damaged the residence was. Maggiolo said all those inside the building got out safely, but did not say how many people had been displaced by the blaze.
The investigation remains active and ongoing. Additional details have not yet been made public.
