If you have the Costco Anywhere Visa, you have extended warranty protection — but not for much longer.
Reddit users reported months ago that the card’s website no longer made mention of the extended warranty benefit, leading some to believe Citi, the card issuer, would soon stop including it. That is indeed what’s happening in early 2023, according to Clark.com:
“The Costco Anywhere Visa® Card by Citi will retire its extended warranty benefit effective January 22, 2023.
Cardholders will still be able to take advantage of this coverage on qualifying purchases before that date.
And if you have already made a qualified purchase with the card, the coverage extension you received at that time will remain in place.”
Extended warranties are available for all kinds of products, from appliances to (infamously) cars to smaller electronics. For an extra cost, the standard warranty, which might last for as little as a couple of months, can be extended by a year or more.
That requires a cost-benefit decision on each purchase: How likely is your product to break in the warranty window, and will extending it save you more than it costs? The answer for many people is often “no.”
But the Costco Anywhere Visa offered an extra two years of warranty coverage on qualifying purchases at no extra cost, which is a pretty easy “yes.”
Make any purchases that you foresee needing a longer warranty before Jan. 22 to make the most of this benefit.
