Cook Islanders could have access to imported medicinal cannabis products as early as next month and certainly before the end of the year according to the country’s health secretary Bob Williams.

While existing legislation needs to be amended to enable access, Williams said the Ministry of Health would reactivate its pharmacy board to progress the issue.

The board, which can licence pharmacists and authorise them to import medicinal cannabis, is planning to meet next month and process the documentation needed to allow that to happen.
