(FOX40.COM) — One of the bridges used by Sacramento commuters every day is set to be closed for the next 10 days, starting on Monday morning.
According to officials, the I Street bridge is set to close to allow workers to work on the siding repairs. The bridge connecting Sacramento and West Sacramento will close around 6 a.m.
The City of Sacramento said the closure will affect all travel across the I Street Bridge during the repair period, which includes drivers, bicyclists and pedestrians.
Here’s a list of some detour routes that are scheduled.
Westbound traffic
- From southbound Jibboom Street: Left on I Street → Right on Third Street → Right on Capitol Mall.
- From westbound I Street (committed to bridge approach): Right on Jibboom Street → Right on Railyards Boulevard → Right on Fifth Street → Right on I Street → Left on Third Street → Right on Capitol Mall.
- From westbound I Street: Left on Third Street → Right on Capitol Mall
Eastbound traffic
- From northbound Third Street: Left on B Street → Left on Fourth Street → Left on C Street → Right on Third Street → Left on Tower Bridge Gateway.
- From eastbound C Street: Right on Third Street → Left on Tower Bridge Gateway.
- From southbound Third Street: Left on Tower Bridge Gateway.
The bridge is expected to be open and ready for traffic at 6 a.m. on Oct. 16.
The City of Sacramento announced in August that they are continuing to pursue the I Street Bridge Replacement Project, setting plans for funding and an approximate construction in Spring 2026.
The new bridge will have wider lanes to accommodate buses and emergency vehicles, as well as 6-foot-wide bike lanes and a 12-foot-wide shared-use path.
“This is not just a bridge—it’s a once-in-a-generation investment in connectivity, safety, and opportunity for both cities,” Assistant City Manager Ryan Moore said. “We’re deeply grateful to all of our local, regional, state and federal partners who continue to work alongside us to bring this vision to life.”
