Colorado teen's senior pictures go viral with hundreds of thousands of likes

CENTENNIAL, Colo. (KDVR) — A cross-country runner at a Colorado high school is experiencing celebrity status after his senior pictures went viral on Instagram.

Will Edson has Down syndrome and attends Arapahoe High School. He got his senior pictures taken at Monty Nuss Photography in Littleton. The company posted his photos on Instagram like they do for the other seniors, and the response has been overwhelming.

As of Tuesday afternoon, there were more than 9.2 million views and 355,000 likes. For perspective, the company’s typical post gets about 100 likes.

“That is so crazy to me!” said Cheryl Brown at Monty Nuss Photography.

Some of Brown’s favorite comments include “Save some chicks for the rest of us” and “You’re the man William.”

The response is equally shocking to Will and his mother, Sarah. She says the photos captured Will as a person, and that’s why she thinks they resonated with so many people.

“That truly is the essence of Will, the fun, the joy, the happy,” she said.

Will does not have a phone or social media, but Sarah says she gets emotional thinking about the response.

“I don’t care who you are parenting, you always want your kid to be loved and appreciated and accepted for who they are, and this is just evidence of that,” she said.

Social media can be a tough place, but Monty Nuss says the vast majority of comments have been supportive.
