HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) – A new mural in downtown Holyoke is not only adding a splash of color, but also holds a deeper meaning.

This vibrant flower mural on Dwight Street created by the non-profit public art organization, Color Collaborative in partnership with the Holyoke Children’s Museum was unveiled during a ribbon cutting ceremony.

Through an art therapy activity at the children’s museum, youth were able to express their visions of joy and belonging which were then incorporated into the final design of the mural. It was part of an intiative called “Imagined Worlds” that aims to raise awareness and start conversations about mental health and well-being.

“Really show people and to show kids that we care. There’s so much in the world happening right now. There’s so many things that can be disheartening. so this mural is bringing some of that big, vibrant, abundant nature to everybody’s everyday life,” said Sharona Color, Color Collaborative Founder.

The mural is also further inspired by the Neighbor 2 Neighbor Community Garden across the street, a space where local residents gather to cultivate food, friendship, and connection.

To ensure the mural site serves not only as a place og beauty but a hub of community care and learning, a small free library has been created for people to grab bilingual books and mental health resources.
