Christmas tree blamed for Bethesda fire that seriously injured 5

A Bethesda home fire left five adults seriously injured and a dog needing resuscitation on Thursday. Officials investigate the cause of the fire.

WASHINGTON — Five people suffered serious injuries, and a dog needed to be resuscitated when a Christmas tree near a power strip sparked a fire at a home in Bethesda on Thursday.

According to an official, at least one of the people suffered a life threatening injury.

Most of the injuries were due to burns or smoke inhalation, officials say.

They say the fire in the 10300 block of Fleming Avenue off Grosvenor Lane spread throughout the first floor.

All five of the patients were adults. Officials have not released the identities of the adults at this time.

Crews were able to get the flames under control and extinguish the fire before 6 p.m.

Sixty-five firefighters responded to the scene.
