Cattle Decapitation‘s Travis Ryan has an instantly-identifiable vocal style that’ll peel the flesh right off your bones. But who does Ryan look up to within the metal genre? During a chat with Sobre La Dosis, Ryan named early Carcass and Coroner as the two bands that he’s still very much in love with.

CarcassSymphonies Of Sickness and Necroticism era – and Coroner. Those are my two favorites. I’m still stuck in the 80s, man. I don’t know what it is, late 80s to the mid 90s – those are the golden years of metal in my mind, as far as extreme metal [goes]. The transition over into extreme metal from lighter extreme forms, such as speed and thrash, over into death [and] grind [and] black metal. To me, that transitional period is key and important for the rest of our days in extreme metal.”
