Authorities in Casablanca, Morocco, have unveiled a significant drug bust, seizing over 6 tons of ‘chira’, a form of hashish, in a noteworthy stride against the illegal drug trade.
The operation led to the arrest and questioning of several high-profile individuals, including the president of Wydad Casablanca Club and the President of the Oriental Regional Council.
High Profile Arrests
Among the 25 people detained were former parliamentarian Belkacem Mirof and some individuals accused by the international drug dealer known as the ‘Escobar of the Desert’, for misappropriating his real estate properties.
The accused underwent extensive questioning, with 20 of them recommended for further investigation. The scandal escalated following allegations made by the ‘Escobar of the Desert’ himself.
