Car towed twice in 15 days before anyone noticed a dead body in the back seat

The man had previously been reported missing, but his car went through two tow companies before anyone noticed his body.

WOODBRIDGE, Va. — It took 15 days and two tows before anyone noticed a dead man in the backseat of a car in Woodbridge. Now, police are investigating his death.

According to the Prince William County Police Department, an unnamed private towing company was contacted on Nov. 3 to remove a vehicle from the PS Business Park parking lot on PS Business Center Drive. The car was then towed and eventually transferred to another tow lot in Fairfax County.

Fifteen days later, workers at the Fairfax County tow lot contacted police after noticing a dead body on the floor of the backseat.

Police have identified the body only as a 49-year-old man who had been reported missing on Nov. 1, two days before his car was towed from the business park parking lot.

The man’s body was taken to the medical examiner’s office to confirm the identity and determine the cause and manner of death. Preliminarily, there does not appear to be any signs of foul play or a threat to the community.
