Car crashes into Carolina Kettle in Raleigh, police search for driver, passenger

Raleigh police are searching for two people who crashed a car into Carolina Kettle on Hillsborough Street and left the scene early Monday morning.

A driver and passenger plowed into Carolina Kettle, a kettle-cooked potato chip store, around 12:30 a.m. The crash left a sizable hole in the brick and corrugated metal wall that faces Hillsborough Street.

Witnesses told the Raleigh Police Department that they saw two people leave the car behind. Raleigh police searched for them in the surrounding area.

The crash left extensive damage to the business and car, according to police. The WRAL Breaking News Tracker was there as a car was being towed. The front bumper was crushed in.

As of 2:30 a.m., no one has been arrested.

WRAL News is working to find out who was involved, if they are hurt and what led up to the crash.

WRAL reported about Carolina Kettle’s opening in 2017. An North Carolina State University graduate, Josh Monahan, opened the retail snack store to create a central location to sell the chips and feed the hungry. They make a donation to the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina every time a bag is sold.
