(FOX40.COM) — Cal Fire has released a statement addressing the arrest of Fire Captain Darin McFarlin in connection with the death of a woman and a boy in Cameron Park this month.
“My deepest sympathies are with the family, loved ones and community of the victims during this extremely difficult time,” Director and Chief of Cal Fire, Joe Tyler said. “I too am heartbroken and shocked by this tragic event. This incident continues to have a profound impact on our personnel in the Amador – El Dorado Unit and beyond.”
The El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office said 29-year-old Marissa N. Divodi-Lessa and a male juvenile were fatally shot on Aug. 21 at a Cameron Park home.
Deputies connected McFarlin to the murders and arrested him around midnight on Aug. 22 in Mono County.
“These actions do not reflect the values, mission, or dedication of CAL FIRE as a department, which exists to protect and serve our community,” Tyler said. “Darin McFarlin has been placed on unpaid administrative leave, and we are monitoring the situation closely. CAL FIRE will continue to cooperate fully with the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office regarding the ongoing investigation.”
The identity of the juvenile has not been released, and the investigation is ongoing.
