PORTLAND, Ore. — Officers from the Portland Police Department recovered a suspect’s handgun from the front bumper of a cruiser after crashing into him to disarm him, according to a bureau news release.
The Nov. 5 incident occurred when officers responded to multiple reports of a naked man running around with a handgun, according to the release. When they arrived on the scene, the man was no longer there.

Officers performed an area check and spoke with witnesses, who told them that the man pointed the gun and pulled the trigger, but that it did not fire.
Officers then found the man and tried to contain him within the busy neighborhood. The man then fired a shot before fleeing. It is unclear what the man was shooting at.
Hearing the shot fired, an officer used his cruiser to strike the suspect as he ran down the street, knocking the gun from his hands. The suspect got back up and continued running away.
Officers eventually confronted the man, instructing him to get on the ground. He initially complied before attempting to flee into an apartment building.
Officers deployed a TASER to take the man into custody. He struggled and began intentionally hitting his head on the sidewalk as he was being arrested, prompting him to be transported to a hospital, according to the release.
He was treated before being booked into jail on charges of unlawful use of a weapon and felon in possession of a firearm.
His gun was recovered in the front bumper guard of the cruiser, according to the release.
