Butterscotch Apple Cake Ingredients Needed:

Self-Rising Flour

Ground Cinnamon

Ground Cloves

Ginger

Nutmeg

White Granulated Sugar

Eggs

Oil

Vanilla Extract

Buttermilk

Apples ( I use red delicious, but you can use what you like)

Butterscotch Chips

Pecans or Walnuts

Butterscotch Frosting Ingredients

Butterscotch Chips

Milk

Butter

Powdered sugar

The four spices in this cake, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, and ginger, give this cake a wonderful flavor. As you can see from the photos, we just poured the icing over the top, and it turned out really pretty. We also topped the icing with a few nuts just to give it a little texture, which I think turned out great.

This is the only way we have made this cake; I have not tried it with regular milk; I have only made it with buttermilk. The fat in the buttermilk is a great addition to this cake, and we enjoy cooking with buttermilk. If you don’t want to buy a container of buttermilk, then you can use this recipe here to make a quick substitute.
