10 Sequin Tops For New Year’s Eve
We’re only two weeks away from the new year, which means it’s time to plan out your NYE outfit! Whether you’re going out or staying in, sequins are never a bad idea…they can make your outfit look special without being over the top. But if you really want to go for it, you can style them in a way that makes a statement too! The simplest way to incorporate sequins into your party outfit this year is with a sequin top. There are tons of options out there in different necklines, colors, and styles. But I’m sharing a roundup of some of my favorite sequin tops that are perfect for New Year’s Eve parties. Plus, tips on how to wear a sequin top and some sequin top outfit ideas!

#1) Drape Back Sequin Top
First up is this gorgeous sequin top by 1. State. It has a mock neck, long sleeves, and a beautiful, dramatic draped back. You know what I always say…I like drama in my clothes, not my life. This top is perfect for a holiday party, a night out, or even during your family get-together at home for New Year’s Eve. Oh, and the best part is that it’s under $100! It also comes in black, silver, and pale pink and runs true to size (I’m wearing a small). I’ve styled it with a pair of straight-leg jeans, but you could easily style this top with some classic black wide-legged pants for an office party or a chic skirt to dress it up even more. Note: you will need someone to help you with the back buttons at the neck.
#2) Sequin Camisole
Next up is this festive and sexy 1. State sequin cami. Every woman needs a basic black and white cami in her closet for everyday wear. But I think a sequin cami is a must-have for the holidays too! I styled it on its own with jeans, but I could see this cami under a blazer, moto jacket, or faux fur paired with pants and skirts too. It keeps going in and out of stock so I linked a few other options below to give you the same look.
#3) Puff Sleeve Sequin Top
This gorgeous sequin top has a fun puff sleeve, it’s super soft and comfortable, lined on the inside so the sequins don’t scratch, and it’s thin enough to tuck into pants without adding bulk around the tummy. This exact top is older so it’s sold out but I linked some similar puff sleeve sequin tops below…
#4) V-Neck Sequin Top
I love this more understated, long-sleeve white sequin top! It has a super flattering v-neckline. This top is also lined, thin enough to tuck into pants, and I really love that the V doesn’t go too low. Pair your v-neck sequin top with jeans for a casual New Year’s Eve outfit or dress it up with some wide-leg pants. Sharing more tops like this one below…
#5) Sequin Duster Cardigan
If sequin tops aren’t your thing, a sequin cardigan is perfect! It has an interior drawstring to create more shape and is lined to make it soft on your skin. It’s that perfect show-stopping, eye-catching statement piece that will instantly elevate a basic look for NYE. I’m wearing it with chic joggers, a silky cami, and pumps but you could even throw it over a basic top and jeans for a simple, casual New Year’s Eve outfit.
#6) Sequin Blazer
If sequin tops aren’t for you and you want something more polished than a cardigan, go for a blazer! What better time to wear a sequined blazer than for NYE, right? I love this more subtle white sequin blazer with the matching pants. This would be such a fun look for a dressy New Year’s Eve party. But you could also wear it over a blouse and jeans for a casual look. I’m sharing a few blazer options below…
#7) Sequin Halter Top
I love the high neck on this sequin halter top for some extra coverage, but it’s still so sexy with the bare arms and shoulders. If it’s cold where you live, you can throw on a jacket or coat over this top while outside.
#8) Sequin T-Shirt
For a more casual New Year’s Eve celebration, consider a sequin tee! It still makes a statement because of the sequins, but the t-shirt style is inherently more casual. Wear it with jeans and your slippers for a New Year’s Eve at home.
#9) Sequin Peplum Top
This top is really old, but I wanted to share it because peplum tops are SO flattering for many different body shapes. I share more tips on wearing sequins based on your body shape below. But if you’re worried about a tummy at all, and want to wear sequins for NYE, I recommend a peplum top! I’m sharing a few options below…
#10) Geometric Sequin Cami
If you liked the look of the sequin cami in #2 but want something a little edgier, look for a cami with some edgy details like a geometric print, leather accents, etc. This cami has a geometric design that gives it a little extra oomph. I’m sharing a few edgier sequin options below…
How To Wear A Sequin Top
Dress It Up
Dress up your sequin stop by wearing it with dressier bottoms like a skirt, wide-leg pants, velvet pants, or leather pants. Then add some impactful jewelry and heels, and you’re ready to go! If you are headed to a cocktail party but still want to wear sequins and really take it to the next level, consider finding a sequin dress or jumpsuit instead of a top.
Dress It Down
For a more casual sequin outfit…you can dress down your sequin top! You can never go wrong pairing your sequin top with a pair of jeans. Another option if you’re staying in and keeping it low-key is to try it with joggers or wide-legged lounge pants for ultimate comfort!
Choose Accessories Wisely
First, ask yourself how you want to look. Do you want to go glam or understated? If you’re going glam, choose statement accessories that are impactful, but don’t outshine your sequin top. If you’re trying to keep it understated, you still want impactful accessories…they just won’t be as over-the-top. For example, you would choose simple gold hoops versus fun statement earrings.

Choose Modern Pieces
This tip is more about choosing the right sequin top for you. You can definitely go with a simple v-neck, long-sleeve sequin top and look fabulous. But, when selecting your perfect sequin top, consider modern design details like puff shoulders, asymmetrical necklines, wrap styles, etc. Those little details make a big difference!
Mix Textures
Don’t get me wrong, a fully sequined outfit is something I’ve worn for a special occasion. But if that’s not your style, I recommend mixing your sequins with other textures like denim, velvet, and faux leather or leather to add some interest to the look.
Know Your Body Shape
Depending on your body shape, you might actually want to avoid wearing sequins on your top half. Don’t worry, that doesn’t mean you can’t wear sequins! Sequins draw attention… so if you’re an Inverted Triangle, for example, to create more balance, try wearing sequins on your bottom half like I did in this post.

Sequin Top Outfit Ideas
Outfit Idea #1) Sequin Top with Denim
You can wear your sequin top with your favorite pair of jeans for a chic, casual, and simple holiday look. I personally love wide-leg, flare, or straight-leg jeans in a darker wash. But you could wear black skinny jeans, tapered ankle jeans, crop flare jeans, or whatever you prefer! Throw on a pair of heels and some jewelry and you’re ready to go!
Outfit Idea #2) Sequin Top with Black Wide Leg Trousers
If you have an office party that you want to look a little more festive, pair your sequin top with some black wide-leg trousers for a super flattering look. I love the Spanx wide-leg pants but you can where whatever trousers you already have in your closet. Then, add some black pumps to keep the legs looking long, and some subtle jewelry to tie it all together.
Outfit Idea #3) Sequin Top with Tapered Trousers
If you prefer a more tapered or slim-fit trousers, it’s the same idea as outfit #2! If you’re wearing this somewhere other than a work party, consider adding a fun beaded clutch or another accessory to bring it up a notch.
Outfit Idea #4) Sequin Top with Joggers
Joggers are a really fun and unique way to style your sequin top. If you’re staying home, throw on a pair of comfortable joggers. Or opt for velvet or satin joggers for a super chic and unexpected NYE look!
Outfit Idea #5) Sequin Top with Velvet Pants
If you don’t have or like velvet joggers, you can go with a more traditional style of velvet pants or velvet jeans!
Outfit Idea #6) Sequin Top with Wide Leg Pants
The most traditional option (and easiest to style) would be black wide-leg pants. These are different than the trousers mentions in outfit #2 because they’ll be a more casual look. Pleated pants are a big trend right now, which would be fun to try to style with your sequin top. You could also go with pretty much any color and/or style!
Outfit Idea #7) Sequin Top with Tulle Skirt
I’ve styled a sequin top with a tulle skirt and felt SO fabulous! The important part is getting the proportions right. If you’re wearing a voluminous tulle skirt, consider going with a more fitted or body-skimming sequin top. This look is pretty dramatic, so for NYE, ditch the added accessories and rock the tulle and sequin combo!
Outfit Idea #8) Sequin Top with Pleated Skirt
Along the same line, but slightly more subtle…a sequin top would look beautiful with a pleated midi skirt!
Outfit Idea #9) Sequin Top with Pencil Skirt
I know the look above isn’t a sequin top…but I wanted you to see a general idea of styling a pencil skirt and sequins. Wear your sequin top with a chic black pencil skirt for ultimate sophistication for NYE!
Outfit Idea #10) Sequin Top with Sequin Skirt
Which leads to the next outfit idea…a sequin top with a sequin skirt! Double down on the sequins and wear a chic black sequin top with a matching black sequin skirt…or whatever color you love!
Outfit Idea #11) Sequin Top with Faux Leather or Leather Pants
The next outfit idea is to wear your sequin top with leather or faux leather pants. Try some cropped faux leather pants, wide-leg faux leather pants, or even faux leather leggings. If you go with leggings, I’d consider wearing a tunic top or sweater paired with something that covers your bum like the sequin duster I shared above.
Outfit Idea #12) Sequin Top with Sequin Pants
Bring on the drama by wearing your sequin top with matching sequin pants! In the look above, I’m wearing a matching sequin blazer and pants suit. But you could wear your sequin pants with a sequin camisole, one-shoulder top, puff sleeve top, etc.
Outfit Idea #13) Sequin Top with Blazer
To tone down the sparkle a little, throw on a blazer! Having that little bit of sparkle showing under the blazer adds just enough oomph.
Outfit Idea #14) Sequin Top with Faux Fur Jacket or Coat
OR…try a faux fur coat! Walking into your NYE celebration with a faux fur coat makes a statement (in a good way). Then, you’ll take off your coat, and BAM…a fabulous sequin top!
Outfit Idea #15) Sequin Top with Cardigan
Dress your sequins down with a cozy cardigan and some lounge pants for a New Year’s Eve at home this year!
