(KRON) – East Bay businesses are picking up the pieces after a string of burglaries.
Zoonie’s Candy Shop in downtown Lafayette was targeted on Saturday, Nov. 15 at approximately 4:02 a.m., according to business owner David Harrison.
Harrison told KRON4 that burglars smashed through the shop’s front door and left quickly. He described the burglary saying, “they were after the money, so they jack hammered down the floor safe and took the whole safe as well as a couple of tills.”
No one was inside the store when the burglary occurred, but the ordeal has left an impact. Harrison has been the owner of the 18-year-old shop for the past six years and admitted this was the first break-in he’s experienced.
Unfortunately, Zoonie’s Candy Shop was not the only business to fall victim to burglars.
Panache Caffe, a short walk from Zoonie’s, was also hit by a group of burglars a few days prior. Surveillance video from Nov. 6 shows at least six masked men breaking down the front door of the café. Apple Sampaeng, the business owner, told KRON4 that she was getting the café ready for opening when the burglars struck. Sampaeng said she was hiding in the dark and clutching onto a baseball. The burglars made off with a large safe that was bolted to the floor.
Sampaeng added that this was the fourth break-in for the cafe.
I can maybe add this last bit from the LPD facebook post to tie up the story for now. What do
The Lafayette Police Department is actively working on leads regarding the suspects, vehicle, and similarities between the burglaries.
