Boyles Fire in Clearlake: 4,000 displaced due to evacuation orders

CLEARLAKE, Calif. — Evacuations are underway in Clearlake after a wildfire sparked in the area.
The so-called Boyles Fire is burning in the area of Dam Road and Boyles Avenue Sunday afternoon.
According to Cal Fire, the fire is around 76 acres in size and burning at a moderate rate of speed. The fire is 10% contained. Officials said there are about 30 structures are on fire.
Thousands of PG&E customers are without power in Lake County, with about 5,300 impacted in Clearlake and about 2,000 in unincorporated Lake County.

A temporary evacuation shelter is at Twin Pine Casino in Middletown.

Wildfire Preps
If you live in a wildfire-prone zone, Cal Fire suggests creating a defensible space around your home. Defensible space is an area around a building in which vegetation and other debris are completely cleared. At least 100 feet is recommended.
The Department of Homeland Security suggests assembling an emergency kit that has important documents, N95 respirator masks, and supplies to grab with you if you’re forced to leave at a moment’s notice. The agency also suggests signing up for lvocal warning system notifications and knowing your community’s evacuation plans best to prepare yourself and your family in cases of wildfires.
