(KRON) — The Alameda County Coroner’s Office has confirmed the identities of two East Bay residents who died in a single-car crash near the intersection of Thornton Avenue and Hickory Street in Newark on Thursday.
Emergency crews responded to the crash at about 5:28 p.m. and determined that one of the victims was ejected during the crash, according to the Newark Police Department.
“Emergency personnel immediately rendered aid, but despite these efforts, both occupants succumbed to their injuries,” the Newark Police Department said.
Mysterious fireball seen in Bay Area skies
The coroner’s office identified the driver as Anthony Andres Reynoza Monchez, a 33-year-old man from Hayward and the passenger as Luis Alberto Deras, a 31-year-old man from Union City. The crash remains under investigation.
This crash is Newark’s first deadly car crash of 2025.
