Rep. Lauren Boebert came under fire Wednesday for inaccurately claiming President Biden was responsible for school closures during the pandemic.
As the Colorado Republican and some of her fellow party members jeered and heckled the president while he delivered his second State of the Union speech on Tuesday, she took to Twitter.
At one point during his speech Tuesday, Biden alluded to school closures during the worst of the pandemic in 2020. Boebert immediately tapped out his quote, “when schools were closed,” and commented underneath, “Hey Joe, YOU CLOSED THEM!”
The instantaneous clapback came under the hashtag “Lauren Boebert is so stupid.” Reply tweets included reminders that Donald Trump had been president at the time and left school closings up to states, along with sarcastic tips on how to use a calendar. There were also movie clips of characters yelling, “What the f— are you talking about?”
“Trump was taking orders from Biden? How awkward,” tweeted one user, while another said merely, “Ummmmmmmmmm…. Who’s gonna tell her?”
“Timelines are hard for you…” a Boebert critic wrote.
On Tuesday night, after Biden decried hidden fees charged by airlines and other corporate entities in his speech, Boebert tweeted, “When was the last time Joe Biden flew coach?”
People were quick to point out that security protocols call for U.S. presidents to travel on Air Force One. Others harked back to Biden’s years traveling by rail from Delaware to the U.S. Capitol while a senator.
