SOUTHWICK, Mass. (WWLP) – From Southwick to West Suffield it was a day on the lake for hundreds Sunday afternoon. Every year dozens of boaters get together and decorate their boat and parade throughout the Congamond Lakes.
This year all the fun began at 3 p.m. Saturday where a local Elvis impersonator serenaded the boaters during this belated July 4th celebration.
“As for the Fourth of July there should be some runover, you know to have one day it’s wonderful to see the energy and excitement,” said Raymond Guillemette, the Elvis impersonator. “This event was wonderful, it was my first time here and it’s something to be seen I enjoyed it.”
The parade of boats began their ride a little later in the afternoon Sunday at Babb’s Beach, where families were cooling off on this hot summer day.
And everyone had two options to decorate their own boat, either the classic traditional patriotic theme or Margaritaville theme in honor of the late great Jimmy Buffet.
22News spoke to some beachgoers from Longmeadow and asked them what made their first boat parade special.
“Well just all the boats decorated and seeing everybody have fun.”
“I would say all the boats, seeing all the boats and seeing all the people out here it’s a great time.”
Many of the boats Sunday were Margaritaville themed, and so on the water it really felt as nice as a cheeseburger in paradise.
