‘Big Little Lies’ season 3 moving forward with 'Mr. & Mrs. Smith' writer

(NewsNation) — The third season of HBO’s megahit “Big Little Lies” is moving forward, with the show hiring the co-creator of Amazon’s “Mr. & Mrs. Smith.” 

HBO tapped Francesca Sloane to pen the first episode of the show’s third season, according to Deadline.  

Sloane will executive produce the new season of the show alongside series creator David. E. Kelley and stars Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman

The show was based on Liane Moriarty’s 2014 “Big Little Lies,” which hit No. 1 on the New York Times Best Sellers list.

The show premiered in 2017 won a slew of Emmys and stars Witherspoon, Kidman, Shailene Woodley, Laura Dern, Zoë Kravitz, Alexander Skarsgård and Meryl Streep.  

The cast for the upcoming season hasn’t been confirmed, but it’s expected that Kidman and Witherspoon will return since they also serve as executive producers, according to The Guardian.

Sloane’s addition to “Big Little Lies” comes after signing a development deal with HBO after leaving her deal with Amazon MGM Studios.
