Spring Capsule Wardrobe

If you’re a newsletter subscriber, you know that we have EPIC capsule wardrobe graphics seasonally. These handouts that you can download and print, are so helpful visually when it comes to putting together the perfect capsule wardrobe where everything works seamlessly together. When you sign up for the newsletter, you also get access to a Spring Lookbook where we take the spring capsule pieces below and create several outfits to take all the guesswork out of ways to style each piece!

For those who don’t know what a capsule wardrobe is…it’s basically a collection of essential items that flawlessly integrate together. That means that you can mix and match and wear all of these pieces in a bunch of different ways. I often get questions from you about how to build a capsule wardrobe and here are my two biggest tips…

1) Pick a Color Story – the color story of the capsule below is white, beige, pink, and black. Neutrals like white, black, and beige are perfect for mixing in fun pieces (like the pink!).
2) Choose Basics Wisely – make sure you’re spending the majority of your budget on high-quality basics that will last you years and years! Consider your body shape, sleeve lengths, hemlines, and all of the things that help us ladies over 40 feel more confident.

Spring Capsule Wardrobe Essentials

I tried to include pieces that are versatile so that you can wear them over and over again. This wardrobe is for spring, but it could easily transition to summer! Another thing I want to point out is that you do NOT have to buy new pieces every season. This capsule wardrobe is a springboard for you to create outfits and glean inspiration. You probably already have some similar items in your closet! But, if you’re interested in sprucing up a few of the basics, you can find all of the links to these items below! If you want to see more ways to wear these items, make sure you subscribe to the newsletter to get the free Lookbook with over 30+ outfits styling some of these pieces coming soon…

Tops & Sweaters

All of these tops and sweaters have flattering and modern details for women over 40. The black raw edge tank is super affordable, and I have it in white and black, I’ve owned the Rails button-down shirt for years and love it, and the black Free People bodysuit is a wonderful basic to have in your closet. The white and black Madewell tees are under $20 but you’ll have to replace them each year.

Dresses & Bottoms

These dresses range from casual to dressy and can be dressed up or down with a few accessory swaps. I own the same or similar washes in all of these jeans and love them! The Agolde denim shorts are a great mid-range option but my personal jean shorts favorite is this pair by Moussy Vintage that are a little pricier. For tips on how to find your perfect denim shorts, make sure you read this post.

Outerwear

This trench is a 3-in-1… You can wear it as a full trench, detach the top to wear it as a trench skirt, or detach the bottom to wear a cropped trench jacket…such a cool piece!
The white blazer is one of my all-time favorite blazers because of the ruched 3/4 sleeves. It comes in a ton of colors and is a great basic!

Accessories

You may already have similar accessories in your closet that serve the same purpose as these pieces, but I wanted to share a few fun, fresh options in case you need inspiration!

Jewelry

All of these pieces are by some of my favorite jewelry brands…Julie Vos, Dean Davidson, Paco Rabanne, Judith Ripka, and Monica Vinader. By the way, you can use code EBUSBEE20 to get 20% off the first necklace (or any Monica Vinader purchase).

Swimwear

The pink one-piece is one-size-fits-all and I love the color for spring/summer. I just ordered the white Norma Kamali bikini and love the sexy sheer panels. Both coverups are by Elan…my go-to brand for chic swim coverups.

Shoes

If you’re interested in the Golden Goose sneakers, make sure you read my full review with break-in time, sizing details, and more here.
I own the Sam Edelman pumps, Schutz tall boots (in three colors), and the closed-toe espadrilles and love them all! They run true to size.
