Yosemite National Park officials have launched a search for an individual who went missing during a backpacking trip over the weekend.
The missing hiker, Hayden Klemenok, was part of a group backpacking on Sunday in Upper Chilnualna Fall, Calif.
Klemenok reportedly entered Chilnualna Creek near a trail junction when he was last seen, according to a post on the park’s Facebook page and website.
Officials are now urging anyone who hiked in the vicinity of Upper Chilnualna Fall on Sunday or later to get in touch with park dispatch.
“Simply knowing where you went and when you were there may help us focus the search, whether you saw anyone or not,” they wrote in the post.
Klemenok, was last observed wearing a tan brimmed hat, white sunglasses, a red T-shirt, blue swimming trunks, and white Adidas shoes.
He had recently graduated from San Diego State University, according to a verified GoFundMe campaign established by a family friend.
In light of the ongoing situation, Yosemite National Park has issued a cautionary notice on its website, advising visitors to avoid rivers and creeks due to flooding.
The warning emphasizes the “surprisingly swift, cold, and dangerous” nature of these bodies of water. “Water-related accidents are the second most common cause of death in the park!” they added.
