British Airways has added the ability for customers to purchase certified carbon removal credits through its “new updated climate platform CO2llaborate,” the carrier announced Wednesday.

The removal credits can be purchased before, during or after a flight, and they will be offered in addition to BA’s options for customers to purchase carbon offsets and sustainable aviation fuel, according to the carrier.

They differ from carbon offsets in that they “specifically describe projects that remove CO2 from the atmosphere or from the carbon cycle,” according to BA, which added they are recognized by scientists, governments and regulators “as a vital tool in helping to address climate change.”
