Arrest made in October 2024 deadly shooting in Yuba City

The Yuba City Police Department say an arrest has been made for the October 2024 murder of a 42-year-old man.

YUBA CITY, Calif. — A man has been arrested in connection with the October 2024 shooting death of a man found on a sidewalk, according to the Yuba City Police Department.

On Oct. 10, 2024, officers responded to reports of gunfire and a person shot in the 100 block of Wilson Avenue.

When they arrived, they found a 42-year-old man lying on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Following a yearlong investigation, detectives identified Mario Juan Franco Hernandez, 37, as the suspect, police said.

Hernandez was arrested Wednesday after officers found him walking near Forbes and Gray avenues. He was booked into the Sutter County Jail on a murder charge.

Investigators said Hernandez and the victim knew each other, and the shooting appeared to have stemmed from a long-standing feud.

The case remains under investigation. No other suspects have been identified.
