This week, the Colorado Department of Revenue (DOR) submitted two legislatively-mandated reports for SB 22-120 Concerning the Regulation of Kratom and SB 22-205 Concerning Intoxicating Hemp and Tetrahydrocannabinols. You can find both reports on the website and available here:
SB 22-120 directed DOR to study the feasibility of regulating kratom and to submit a report evaluating over 20 topics and making recommendations for regulation. The Marijuana Enforcement Division, in coordination with the Liquor Enforcement Division, Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE), and the Colorado Department of Agriculture (CDA) and outside stakeholders, researched and drafted the report.
SB 22-205 directed DOR, CDPHE and CDA to convene and facilitate a Task Force to evaluate and make recommendations regarding the regulation of intoxicating hemp products.
Looking ahead, the General Assembly will review both reports to inform whether to adopt any or all of the recommendations into law. The legislative session begins on January 9 so DOR will be prepared to engage as necessary and appropriate on resulting legislation.
Finally, we want to sincerely thank all of our stakeholders for their significant contributions to this process – including months of meetings and endless time drafting the reports! We look forward to collaborating with you through the next stages of this important work.
