I own Alaska Air (ALK) indirectly, through a total stock market index mutual fund.Or, at best, the fund I own uses an algorithm that behaves as such.ALK will drag Hawaiian Airlines down to its low standard of customer service.BUT, this situation highlights one advantage of ‘passive’ (not really, but that’s an article) capitalization-weighted index investing.ALK stock is mid-cap at $5 bill. – far down the capitalization list. Contribution is tiny.Indexation insulates from ALK’s management buffoonery.
