Easy air fryer radishes

Radishes are good for more than salads! Air fryer radishes turn out tender on the inside, crispy on the outside, with a slightly sweet taste. The roasting process removes the peppery bite that raw radishes are known for, so they’re an excellent low-carb alternative to roasted potatoes and sweet potatoes.

If you’re as big a fan of the air fryer as me, you love how simple it makes preparing roasted vegetables and side dishes. But did you ever think you could air fry radishes?

Just toss the radishes with seasonings and add them to the air fryer — it’s really that easy! This simple recipe has just a classic olive oil, garlic, onion, and parsley mixture, but use whatever you prefer to make this dish your own!

Ingredient notes

Full ingredient quantities and instructions are in the recipe card at the bottom of this post.

  • Radishes: When you are shopping for fresh radishes, look for those with a bright red skin, little-to-no blemishes, and no scratches. If they come with the radish greens still attached, save those for pesto, salad, curry, quiche, soups, and casseroles. You can also saute, boil, or blanch them much like you would like chard or kale.
  • Olive oil: For best results, use good-quality extra-virgin olive oil. It really does make a difference in overall flavor. Avocado, sunflower, or safflower oil will work as well.
  • Garlic powder & onion powder: For air fryer cooking, dried seasonings will cling better to the vegetables without burning. But you can use fresh garlic if it is very finely minced.
  • Parsley: Parsley adds a pop of color and freshness as a garnish. You can omit it, or use cilantro, basil, oregano, or any other fresh herbs you like.

How to make air fryer radishes

Full instructions are in the recipe card at the bottom of this post.

  1. First things first — trim the stem and root ends off of each radish, then slice them in half.
  2. Preheat the air fryer to 400°F. This is an optional step, but I find preheating my air fryer for a couple of minutes makes the cooking times more consistent and even.
  1. In a large bowl, toss the radish halves with the olive oil, garlic, onion, salt, and pepper until they are well coated.

Storage & reheating

If you have leftover air fryer radishes, follow these simple storage tips:

  • Fridge: Keep air-fried radishes in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3-4 days.
  • Freezer: I don’t recommend freezing roasted radishes as the texture will change too much once thawed.
  • Reheat: If you want to reheat your radishes, add them to the air fryer for 2-3 minutes, shaking halfway.

Variations

  • Radishes: You can use all red radishes, or try experimenting with different colors and varieties like pink, white, Daikon, Malaga, Helios, or watermelon radishes.
  • Herbs: Season the radishes with dried herbs like rosemary, oregano, thyme, parsley flakes, basil, or Italian mix for a herbaceous twist.
  • Cheese: Make a cheesy garlic flavor by combining Parmesan cheese and garlic powder.
  • Spicy: For even more spice, add red pepper flakes, cayenne, chili powder, or Cajun seasoning to the radishes.
  • Chips: Slice the radishes into thin medallions to make air fryer radish chips.

Helpful tips

  • Cut the radishes evenly: If some of your radishes are quite a bit bigger than others, cut them into thirds or quarters to make sure the pieces are equal sizes.
  • Place in a single layer: The radish slices should be placed in a single layer in the air fryer basket to allow the hot air to circulate around them for maximum crispness. My 6 quart air fryer has plenty of space for this, but if you have a smaller air fryer you may need to cook in two batches.
  • Shake halfway: For the most even cook, shake the basket halfway through the air frying process. This will result in crispy radishes on all sides.
  • Adjust the time: All air fryer brands and models vary slightly in their cooking times. Keep a close eye on them after the halfway point the first time you make air fryer radishes. This way, you’ll know exactly how long to cook them the next time.
