PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — What an active weather day on Sunday across the region. We saw rain, storms, and snowy conditions across the mountains. Monday will bring back a quiet and drier pattern across the region.
Strong winds gusts on Sunday across the Portland metro area stretched up into southwest Washington along with soaking rains at times. The daytime high in Portland only got up to 56 degrees. Our seasonal average at this point in October is 66 degrees. So, the well-below-normal temps continued throughout the entire weekend. And oh — there was mountain snow!
Plus, a Special Weather Statement was issued by the National Weather Service of a landspout warning for Oregon City, Tigard and Lake Oswego around 5:30 p.m. Sunday, and then about 30 minutes later another Special Weather Statement was issued that included West Linn and Gladstone for a similar warning.
There was also what looked to be a funnel cloud developing in La Center, Washington around 4 p.m. on Sunday. So plenty of active weather could be found across the PNW.
As for the mountain snow… Mt Hood Meadows looked like a snow globe Sunday. Reports of seven inches of new snow fell at Timberline Lodge.
The Winter Weather Advisory for much of the Cascades runs through Monday morning at 11 a.m.
Looking ahead to this upcoming week, showers will continue to fade into our Monday with breezy conditions in Portland. Drier skies, more sunshine and warming afternoon temps in the mid 60s are expected on Tuesday and Wednesday.
