Abbey Road Tavern and Grill in Fuquay-Varina is hosting a fundraiser on Wednesday that they say will support a victim of a boat crash weeks earlier on Harris Lake.
The bar said a portion of the money they make from food on Wednesday will go to Jennifer Stehle and her family, following the boat crash at Harris Lake.
“Any food purchase between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m., 20% of the proceeds are going to be donated back to the family,” said Michelle Bast, the marketing manager at Abbey Road.
On August 2, Stehle was on the lake when a boat drove through a group of swimmers, including herself. A 10-year-old girl, Brooklyn Carroll, died from her injuries. Two people, Quentin Kight and Annemarie Flanigan, were charged with murder in Carroll’s death.
Stehle’s leg was amputated after the crash, and her family told WRAL News she has a long road to recovery.
Bast told WRAL the fatal boat crash rocked the community, and Stehle gave back to a lot of people in the community.
“A lot of people around here knew Ms. Stehle and the Stehle family because she was an active person, giving back to the youth in our community,” Bast said.
Wednesday’s fundraiser is one of several that have taken place to support Stehle. Bast wants her family to know the community is here for them.
“I just want you to know that the community is with you, and it doesn’t end here. Basically, whatever is needed going forward, just ask,” Bast said.
