Speaking of which, I liked the levels themselves. They follow a theme, they are well designed and they are fun to engage with. However, this is where frustration begins: it is hard to make precision games in a 3D platformer, and this game is no exception. It did add a sort of shadow to show you where you’ll land, but sometimes the game plays so fast that you don’t even see it anyways. You will die a lot, and hitboxes are as bad as they always were. Sometimes you’ll hit an enemy in a particular way and it will die, but some others it will kill you because f you, that’s why. UX overall sees a small upgrade in comparison to the original trilogy but I believe it still has a long way to go. Game design and story are also interesting. Levels now follow a theme around the story, which has to do with time travel. An overrated topic, but one that when it’s well done, I don’t mind. And it is well done here. On the other side, the story takes a bit to pick up; in fact, I believe the second half of the game to be way superior to the first since levels start to be connected by cinematics and the story is finally unveiled. If all the game had been like that, it would have been marvellous. And no, the story itself is not mind blowing, but it’s serviceable and it actually made me want to keep pushing forward.
Finally, the game offers a lot of content for what you pay for. If you can get past the frustration, there are a bunch of objectives to accomplish in each level and as you progress more, you unlock new ways to play them, both with different characters and with variations of it. It’s nice if you’re looking for replayability. Me? I can’t wait to finish writing this and never playing the game again. BUT.
