When I’m old and grey and I glance back at my existence on this miraculous world I never want to feel that maybe I could have spent more time with my loved ones.

Today I spent the day with the most cherished lady in my life, my mum. It doesn’t happen as frequently as I would wish so today’s experience was extra special.

Our adventures took us up to the bustling metropolis of London. We took part in a fact filled class learning how to make Christmas table decorations which is something I’ve always wanted to learn to do and never got around to it. I cautiously drove us up to London despite being a little nervous about the frantic game of dodge the bus, bike, car, taxi and electric scooter that every motorist must play in this thrilling city, and together we had a truly memorable day.

A day like this triggered contemplation and it highlighted to me that none of us are getting younger. Our time here is only borrowed so the necessity of valuing every moment is so important. With the clock racing away it’s imperative to spend as much time with our loved ones as we can. It is sadly inevitable that they also won’t be here forever and every second must be cherished. Some unfortunate families don’t have close relationships and I think this is so sad. For whatever reason they find it hard to get along, but if these people can be brave enough to open their hearts to forgiveness and understanding and put differences aside their lives will be so much more enjoyable and fulfilling.

This time of year encourages us to be particularly focused on family and friends, and with the last couple of years being so tough due to the pandemic, it has highlighted for me how important it is to make the most of every single second we have with each other.

Life is so very short and should never be taken for granted. I doubt any of us will look back when we come to the end of our years and say how much we wish we had stayed at the office longer or spent less time with those we love.

Embrace every warm hug, each gentle word, the knowing smiles and the heart felt joy. Don’t waste a second more. Reach out to your family and friends and make the most of the time you have on this beautiful planet. Love each other, appreciate each other and definitely don’t take each other for granted.
