The same trick applies to other apps and functions, such as timers and music apps, with more functionality for this feature to be revealed in the coming months.
Granular tracking for all of your hardcore workouts
And for the Ironman enthusiasts among us, the Apple Watch Ultra got an upgrade, too. The Ultra 2 was already a staggeringly good wearable to keep you company on deep-sea dives or alpine treks, but now it’s one of the most comprehensive tools for tracking your metrics while pushing yourself to the limit.
For starters, there’s the new Module Ultra watch face that gives you live, real-time stats on your altitude, depth, or movement across mountain ranges, revealing even more data at a glance to help you achieve your new PR. The display itself is also brighter at 3,000 nits—Apple’s brightest display in its roster—and will auto-detect when the sun sets, transitioning to night mode to help you keep up to date with your stats when working out at night.
Cyclists can even sync Bluetooth tracking devices geared specifically to their bike to help them gauge their power generated. Or, if you’re one of those people who finds joy in plunging deep underwater, you can track diving sessions down to -500m.
As for the battery, which uses 100% recycled cobalt for the first time, you get the same 36-hour charge when using the watch regularly. In low-power mode, though, you can eke out up to 72 hours in a single charge, which is 12 hours longer than the original Ultra. Perhaps most impressively of all, when you buy the Ultra 2 or any new Apple Watch with the fresh recycled band, you’ll be purchasing a 100% carbon-neutral product.
A fresh pledge to the environment
But more on that carbon-neutral pledge…In Apple’s ongoing quest to meet global sustainability standards, it revealed a range of new eco-friendly recycled yarn watch bands to suit your lifestyle, and noted that you won’t see any more leather materials in any of its products. Apple also shared that its offices are now completely carbon neutral and that all phone cases will be sourced from 100% recycled titanium moving forward.
