A 41-year-old man was killed by a teenager who hit him in the head with a rock near the Manhattan shoreline, knocking him into the Hudson River, and then continued to attack him, police said Thursday.
The victim got into an argument with his 19-year-old accused killer in the Hudson River Greenway park at W. 158th St. in Washington Heights about 5 p.m. Wednesday, cops said.
As the quarrel escalated, the victim was struck in the head with a rock and fell into the Hudson River. His attacker continued to attack him with rocks, police said, based on eyewitness accounts.
The victim was pulled from the river by an FDNY marine unit and rushed by medics to Mount Sinai Morningside but could not be saved. His name was not immediately released.
Miguel Cortez was arrested near the scene and charged with murder.
Cortez, who lives in the Bronx, has two prior arrests, in May for menacing and last September for misdemeanor assault, according to cops.
His arraignment in Manhattan Criminal Court was pending Thursday.
