A big push to get marijuana legalization in Ohio on the November ballot is pushing forward.More than 6,5000 signatures were submitted on Thursday to the Ohio secretary of state’s office, well past the threshold needed.Only 679 signatures were required. The submission came from the “Coalition to Regulate Marijuana Like Alcohol.”Tom Haren, who is with the coalition, has a high level of optimism, saying bringing pot out of the shadows will have a major local benefit.”It works, generates hundreds of millions of dollars in tax revenue every year and makes sure that consumers have an alternative to the illicit market where they can buy products that they’re confident aren’t laced with illicit substances,” Haren said.To put marijuana legalization on the November ballot, the organization needed 124,046 signatures.They fell short by 679 last week and had ten days to get the remaining signatures, garnering an impressive number by Thursday.”It validates what we’ve been saying all along,” Haren said. “Our proposal to regulate the sale of marijuana to adults in Ohio to drive out the illicit market is popular.”But the grass isn’t always greener on the other side, said Tyler Schmidt, executive director of Living in Testimony, a non-profit that houses recovering addicts.Schmidt said he has seen weed not just be a gateway drug but a derailment drug.”For someone who’s trying to maintain their life and recreate their life, even something small like weed can bring them back to their…
